Quck Stress Relief Tip Stress Relief Tip #1 Occasionally we all come to a place where we feel like we are in a rut and the routines of our lives make it feel as if we are stagnant. This is even more important in the colder months when their is less sunlight, we exercise less and we tend not to be outdoors as often. A great way to offset this feeling is to take up a hobby or interest that is diametrically opposed to the work you do or the life you lead. For example, if you do analytical work for a living then perhaps you would enjoy a hobby or activity that had little or nothing to do with analysis - a sport perhaps or maybe something creative. On the other hand if the work you do tends to be on the creative side, you might consider doing something that was more structured, more defined. This change of focus helps to stimulate the opposite side of the brain you are used to using. The right side is related to creative activities while the left side is focused on analytical activities and can serve as a breath of fresh air. It can help you to get a new prospective on your usual routine and perhaps offer insights to problems, questions or concerns you might have that you couldn't see otherwise. The more that you learn to utilize both sides of the brain, the more readily you will be able to move past where you are and open to new experiences and appreciation of life. |

Stress Relief Tip #2 A great way to release stress is through stretching. Rather than tell yourself you must get through everything on your To Do list without a break, its ok to allow yourself a minute or two to stretch when you are slowing down or feeling stressed. This helps in two ways - the first is that it creates an opportunity for you to step away from your concerns for a few moments and shift your attention away from your work. The second is that as you keep focused on your work, the stress of your focus causes your muscles to tighten and that restricts blood flow through out your body, including to your brain. Here is a simple stretch that will help you to relax and refresh yourself. Clasp your hands above your head and extend them as far as you can go while your hands are still clasped. Then extend your forefingers outward so that they are pointed upwards to the ceiling. While you are stretching upwards allow your shoulders to relax as you allow your spine to lengthen. This exercise can be done sitting at your desk or while standing. Do this several times a day as you feel the need. It will to release the tension in your muscles, restore greater blood flow and help you to more readily focus on your work.
